Meizhou rescue team rushes to flood-hit Guangxi, evacuates over 500 people

Severe flooding caused by Typhoon Maysak has recently battered the southern and eastern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, pushing up water levels in several rivers above warning levels. Rescue teams from across China have rushed to Guangxi to support relief efforts, including a volunteer rescue team from Meizhou, Guangdong Province.

At 4 p.m. on July 7, an 11-member volunteer rescue team from the Meizhou Unit of the Off-road Rescue Corps under the Public Welfare Committee of the Guangdong Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Federation departed for severely flood-hit Guigang City with professional rescue equipment.

The team covered more than 800 kilometers in 12 hours, traveling in two vehicles loaded with rescue supplies, which include inflatable boats, swiftwater rescue vests, hydraulic cutters, throw ropes, two-way radios, emergency lights, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

"Today, we helped local schools evacuate more than 500 trapped teachers and students," said Shi Zhu, captain of the rescue team.

Founded by the Meizhou Tiema Off-road Club (梅州铁马越野俱乐部), the Meizhou Rescue Team is a volunteer, nonprofit emergency response organization. Its members include emergency medical responders, rescue divers, and operators skilled in drone reconnaissance and search-and-rescue missions. With expertise in water rescue, the team can respond effectively to disaster conditions on the ground.

Upon receiving a request to assist with relief efforts in Guangxi, members volunteered to form a rescue squad and immediately set out for the disaster zone, demonstrating their commitment to emergency response and public service.
