China’s fruit hub in Guangxi fuels ASEAN trade boom

A large-scale fruit trading complex, the China-ASEAN (Chongzuo) Fruit Trading Center located in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, has processed over 5,724,200 tons of agricultural produce valued at $4.27 billion (30.949 billion yuan) since its inception. This underscores its pivotal role as a critical gateway for agricultural trade between China and Southeast Asian countries.

Situated within the Pingxiang Industrial Park in Guangxi, the trading center covers 725 hectares and consists of two primary zones: the Core Trading Area, which manages auctions, e-commerce platforms, and customs clearance for fresh fruits; and the Processing Zone, which specializes in producing frozen, dried, and packaged goods for both domestic consumption and export markets.

Since commencing core operations, this $7.5 billion (54.5 billion yuan) facility has attracted more than 60 Chinese agricultural enterprises and partnered with the e-commerce platform Cold Chain Duoduo to digitize sales processes. Official data reveals:

- Over 65,000 truckloads processed

- More than 689,400 transactions completed

- Over 40 varieties of ASEAN fruits traded, including durians, mangosteens, and longans

Chongzuo, a border city in Guangxi, serves as a major hub for nearly 40 types of ASEAN fruits exported to China, with the total volume of imported ASEAN fruits ranking first nationwide. The hub's integrated customs system significantly reduces clearance times through advanced technologies such as facial recognition and automated inspections.
