A health team in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin delivered 63 health education sessions to more than 10,000 teachers and students during the 2025–2026 academic year.
The team is known as the school's "health vice principals" of the cooperation zone. It, in partnership with medical experts, provided 50 targeted sessions on infectious disease prevention, ran 33 emergency response drills, and held 15 sessions on myopia, obesity and spinal health.
The team is responsible for the health of teachers and students at 16 primary and secondary schools in the cooperation zone. From setting up health management systems to putting them into practice, and from training school doctors to checking health standards, it has built a coordination mechanism involving government, schools and medical institutions.
The start of the school year coincides with a peak period for dengue fever and chikungunya. In response, the team held 50 targeted infectious disease prevention sessions across schools and ran 33 prevention and control drills.
During the academic year, the team worked with medical experts to deliver 15 specialized health sessions, covering oral health, basic traditional Chinese medicine, smoking cessation and puberty education.
The team also worked to improve teachers' first-aid skills. A series of mental health activities featured interactive talks, group sessions and stress-relief workshops. Campaigns to discourage smoking were also held.
In the 2026–2027 academic year, the team will continue promoting school health through four key areas: nutrition and healthy lifestyles, mental well-being, smoking cessation and infectious disease prevention.
