As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the festive vibe is in full swing in Chenghai District, Shantou. Children at Xishe Kindergarten celebrate in a special way—by racing custom-made mini dragon boats.

With an average age of five, the kids practiced rowing, drumming, and steering under the guidance of their teachers. Each boat carries eight participants, who work together to paddle in sync, guided by a drummer and a steerer in a child-friendly pool.

First launched in 2023, the event integrates traditional culture into early childhood education. Local craftsmen built the mini boats and paddles, allowing children to experience the tradition from boat-making to racing.

"Our little dragon boat team gained a lot of attention last year. The support from families and the joy we saw in the children encouraged us to continue," said Zhang Xiaoyan, principal of the kindergarten. "This year, we added another boat so that more children could participate and experience the spirit of the race."
