The first hydrogen refueling station located inside an expressway service area in Guangdong Province has been completed at the Nanxiangshan East Service Area on the Huadu–Dongguan Expressway in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou City. Construction of the facility, operated by Yuntao Hydrogen Energy, began on March 3 and finished on April 13, a timeline of just 41 days.

The station fills a gap in the province's expressway hydrogen supply network. Hydrogen-powered vehicles traveling across the eastern Pearl River Delta will no longer need to exit the expressway to refuel, addressing a longstanding logistical barrier that has hindered cross-city freight transport.
The facility is a skid-mounted station employing established hydrogen fueling technology. It has a maximum daily supply capacity of 1.8 tonnes, sufficient to serve approximately 100 hydrogen logistics vehicles. The station's projected annual economic output exceeds 16 million yuan.
A logistics operator in Zengcheng District said the station removes a significant operational bottleneck. "Previously, our hydrogen trucks had to detour to an industrial park for refueling, which cost a lot of time," said the manager, identified only by his surname, Luo. "With this station operational, we can not only cover Zengcheng but also connect more of the eastern Pearl River Delta expressway logistics network."
The station's opening aligns with Guangzhou's hydrogen infrastructure development plan for the 2021–2030 period. The Zengcheng District urban management bureau stated that further steps will be taken to refine the regional refueling network and address remaining operational challenges as part of broader efforts to support hydrogen industry growth in the province.
