Shenzhen launched a three-day media tour starting August 6 to showcase its preparations for hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November and related events throughout the year. Dozens of Chinese and international media outlets are participating, visiting sites along three thematic routes focusing on public cultural services, technological innovation and economic and trade development.
The second day of the tour on August 7 focused on technological innovation. Journalists visited Shenzhen InnoX Academy, X Square Robot and SmartMore to explore the city's vibrant innovation ecosystem.
At Shenzhen InnoX Academy, branding supervisor Xu Keying said 80 percent of the academy's projects are tailored for overseas users, with the APEC region being a particularly important user community. She said the APEC meetings will bring important international guests to Shenzhen and unlock new growth momentum for the entire innovation ecosystem. "We hope these guests will discover Chinese products and take them to the global market," she added.
Matt Xu, X Square Robot's director of strategy and investment, expressed excitement about the upcoming APEC meeting and welcomed visitors to see for themselves how dynamic Shenzhen is. "We wish to open up more and more real-world scenarios, for example, in elderly care, in households and in corporate settings, so that our robots can co-evolve with their environments," he said.
At SmartMore, Shi Xiaoliang, product R&D director, said the APEC meetings will provide more opportunities for deeper exchanges with academic organizations and industry partners in the Asia-Pacific region. He noted that once international visitors see the efficiency gains from the company's real-world AI deployments, they will be proactive in introducing the technologies into their own countries' manufacturing processes.
