The 2026 "Hengqin-Macao Cup" sports series got underway on July 11 at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The opening event, a pickleball tournament, concluded with the champions crowned.
The series runs from July to August and features a government institutions division alongside an open division, spanning five sports: pickleball, table tennis, badminton, basketball and tennis.
In a first, this year's badminton competition will be held in Macao Special Administrative Region. The move is aimed at building a regular sports exchange platform between Hengqin and Macao, promoting public fitness across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and deepening integration between the two regions.
The table tennis competition will begin on July 18 at Hengqin Ziqi Primary School, while the basketball tournament will run from July 20 to August 1, with its open division matches also to be held at the school.
Tennis registration closes at noon on July 17, with matches scheduled for July 25 and 26 at the Hengqin International Tennis Center. Registration for the open badminton competition has yet to open; details will be announced later.
