The 48th WorldSkills Competition opened in Shanghai on the evening of September 22, bringing together 1,385 competitors from 68 countries and regions to compete in 64 skills.
China has sent a 220-member delegation to the competition, including 71 competitors, 64 experts and 64 translators and other staff. China's team is competing in all 64 competition events.
Among them are 17 competitors from Guangdong Province, who are competing in 16 skills, a quarter of all the competition events entered by China's team.
Often dubbed the "Skills Olympics," the WorldSkills Competition is held every two years. This year's competitions run from September 23 to 26 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), with competitors vying for medals across six sectors: construction and building technology; creative arts and fashion; information and communication technology; manufacturing and engineering technology; social and personal services; and transportation and logistics.
Guangdong competitors are taking part in five of the six sectors, all except transportation and logistics. Manufacturing and engineering technology has the largest number of entries from the province, with six skills, reflecting Guangdong's role as a major manufacturing hub in China.
