A themed event on the launch of patent pre-examination services for Macao innovation entities was held in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin on September 18, marking the implementation of a cross-border patent pre-examination mechanism between Guangdong and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

The China National Intellectual Property Administration gave official approval in July 2026 for the Zhuhai Intellectual Property Protection Center to offer patent pre-examination services to Macao SAR innovators.
The center officially began providing patent pre-examination services to Macao innovation entities on August 31. Several Macao entities, including the University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology, have completed their first batch of pre-examination filings.
Among the first batch of pre-examination cases, the center granted four design patents, with the fastest taking only three days — more than 90 percent faster than through the regular channel.
A dedicated Hengqin-Macao intellectual property service window also opened on the same day. It enables online remote cross-border processing and provides full-cycle services. These include a green channel for patent pre-examination, interpretation of patent and trademark policies, joint intellectual property rights protection between Guangdong and Macao and the cultivation and commercialization of patents.
