On June 12, a group of Japanese enterprises visited Guangzhou for a tour event featuring a themed conference, four industry matchmaking sessions, and several investment visits.
Guangdong's foreign trade with Japan reached more than 144.70 billion yuan in the first four months of 2025, marking a 5.4% year-on-year increase, according to data from Guangdong Customs. Japan remains the province's sixth-largest trading partner, accounting for 4.9% of Guangdong's total trade value.
From January to April, exports to Japan totaled 64.12 billion yuan, registering marginal growth of 0.1%. Mechanical and electrical products led the exports, totaling 43.05 billion yuan, up 6.3% year-on-year.
Containers drove the surge, with exports reaching 460 million yuan, a remarkable 105.9% increase year-on-year. Automatic data processing equipment and parts followed with 4.51 billion yuan in exports, up 50.3%. Lithium-ion batteries, key components in electronics and electric vehicles, recorded 1.54 billion yuan in exports, growing 43.1%. Meanwhile, game consoles and accessories saw exports of 530 million yuan, a rise of 42.2%, and cameras climbed to 730 million yuan, up 31.1%.
On the import side, Guangdong imported ¥80.64 billion worth of goods from Japan, reflecting a 9.9% increase. Mechanical and electrical imports alone stood at ¥59.22 billion, up 13%.
In April alone, Guangdong's trade with Japan remained strong, with exports at 17.41 billion yuan and imports at 23.57 billion yuan.
As China's manufacturing hub with a complete industrial chain, Guangdong complements Japan's strengths in automotive, IT, and biopharmaceutical technologies, fostering cooperation in the evolving trade landscape.
