The Forum on Integrated Development of Culture, Science and Technology highlighted the growing intersection of technology and culture, as government officials, academics, and industry leaders gathered in Shenzhen on May 27 to discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools are reshaping the country's cultural landscape.
The event drew over 150 participants. Topics ranged from AI-assisted content creation to digital heritage preservation and multilingual communication tools. The forum's central theme—AI empowering cultural innovation—was explored from multiple perspectives.
Several keynote speeches illuminated how AI is transforming creative expression, cultural communication, and heritage preservation. Ding Wenhua of the Chinese Academy of Engineering examined the disruptive potential of AI-generated content in the arts, while Zhang Min from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) highlighted language intelligence as a bridge for global cultural exchange. Su Bomin of the Dunhuang Academy detailed the "Digital Dunhuang" project, which has digitized over 400TB of cultural data and created the world's first immersive digital cave museum.
The forum concluded with a roundtable discussion featuring academics and industry leaders from institutions such as Tsinghua University, Himalaya, and LED manufacturer Leyard. Participants focused on strategies to accelerate the commercialization of technological innovations into cultural products. A shared view emerged that technology has moved beyond a supporting role to become a central driver of creativity.
With advances in AI, big data, and immersive media, China aims to redefine cultural production, enhance global cultural narratives, and strengthen its position as a leading cultural power.
