Macao and Hengqin collaborate to promote cross-region tourism in S. Korea

On May 30, the "Experience Macao" tourism roadshow kicked off in Seoul, South Korea. The event invited representatives from the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin's Economic Development Bureau to showcase Hengqin's rich cultural and tourism resources. The "one trip, multiple stops" tourism route linking Macao and Hengqin was presented as a key offer, aiming to attract more international tourists.

Collaboration and initial cooperation intentions

On May 29, before the roadshow began, a tourism promotion and business meeting was held. Representatives from the Cooperation Zone's Economic Development Bureau introduced Hengqin's advantages, cultural and tourism facilities, and development potential.

They highlighted the "one trip, multiple stops" tourism model and encouraged cooperation between South Korea and Macao-Hengqin tourism enterprises. During the meeting, the Hengqin delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with South Korean travel agencies and cultural and tourism companies. Opportunities for cooperation in tour route design and market promotion were explored, resulting in several initial agreements that laid the foundation for future collaboration.

Showcasing Hengqin's tourism attractions

During the roadshow, which lasts until June 2, the Cooperation Zone's Economic Development Bureau set up a booth themed around "one trip, multiple stops" and "Macao-Hengqin linked tourism."

Hengqin's high-quality tourism resources, such as Chimelong International Ocean Resort's family-friendly tours and Novotown's technology entertainment projects, are being promoted. In collaboration with local travel agencies, Macao-Hengqin linked tour routes and products are also being launched, attracting many South Korean tourists.

Exploring new international market opportunities

In 2024, South Korea was Macao's second-largest international tourist source market, with over a 140% year-on-year increase of its visitors to Macao, presenting a significant opportunity for Macao and Hengqin to jointly explore the South Korean market.

The Cooperation Zone is actively collaborating with travel agencies and major airlines from Macao, Hengqin, and South Korea to explore new Macao-Hengqin and even Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) linked tourism experiences. Innovative products like cross-region joint tickets and multi-city routes are being developed to enhance Macao-Hengqin tourism's international influence and reach new international tourism market opportunities.

Lam In Kit, head of the Cultural, Exhibition and Trade Section of the Economic Development Bureau of the Cooperation Zone, noted that Hengqin's world-class theme parks and ecological tourism resources complement Macao's offers. As the integration of Hengqin and Macao accelerates, their tourism resources are also becoming more deeply integrated. South Korean tourists can visit Macao and extend their trip to Hengqin to experience the unique charm of the "one trip, multiple stops" Macao-Hengqin tourism package.
