On November 21, Dongguan's Humen Town once again captured the spotlight in the global apparel industry with the opening of the 2024 World Fashion Conference. Representatives from 20 countries and regions, including China, France, Italy, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and India, gathered to strengthen international partnerships in fashion industry. Concurrently, the 27th China (Humen) International Garment Fair and the 2024 Greater Bay Area (Humen) Fashion Week also kicked off.
Dongguan, a city with a GDP surpassing one trillion yuan and a population of over ten million, stands as a dual powerhouse in economic growth. The textile and apparel industry, a traditional pillar of the local economy, reflects the city's dynamic journey through China's reform and opening-up. Notably, Humen's clothing brand has achieved a remarkable milestone as the first regional brand in China valued at over one hundred billion yuan.
Deputy Mayor Xing Wenju expressed hope that by hosting the World Fashion Conference for the second consecutive year, attendees would come to know more about Dongguan, paving the way for mutually beneficial collaborations.
The current landscape of both domestic and international apparel markets is undergoing profound changes. Rising consumer demand in China and adjustments in international markets are shaping new trends, with technological innovations and new business models such as live e-commerce and cross-border trade gaining momentum. The event also featured promotional activities highlighting Humen's industrial capabilities and outlines for collaborative opportunities within the local garment sector.
During the conference, a signing ceremony for collaborative projects in the Humen apparel industry took place. These projects encompass various fields, including foreign trade, digital transformation, and creative design. Significant agreements were reached, including those involving Dongguan Huagang Supply Chain Co., the "Guanfu Cloud" digital platform, the Humen Design City under POP, and the Yao Wang Humen live e-commerce base. This industrial cooperation is set to provide a substantial boost to the high-quality development of Humen's clothing sector.
Attendees also witnessed the establishment of the GAC World Fashion Conference Humen Liaison Office and the STAR (Sustainable Textiles of the Asian Region) network's China liaison office. The release of the "2024 World Fashion Conference Humen Vision" marks a commitment to sustainable development. Humen is striving to enhance its role in global industrial sustainability by fostering a new model of production that is tailored to local conditions.
The STAR network, initiated by the China National Textile and Apparel Council alongside industry organizations from various Asian countries, is the first alliance of textile and apparel producers in the region. The Chinese liaison office will facilitate long-term cooperation with Humen's garment industry, aiming to bolster the collective voice and sustainable development capabilities of Asia's textile and apparel supply chains in the global market.
