The largest handmade Loong vat in Guangdong was displayed at the 20th International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), specifically at A12 booth of Qingyuan Hall.
This Loong vat is 1.2 meters in height, 4.18 meters in perimeter and 1.33 meters in diameter. It was crafted in a Loong kiln with a history of over 220 years in Longtang Town of the “The Blessed Land” - Qingyuan. The Loong kiln is about 75 meters long and 3 meters wide, making it the longest and largest Loong kiln still in use in Guangdong.
Longtang clay vat firing technique was designated as an intangible cultural heritage of Qingyuan in 2019, and was included in the eighth batch of intangible cultural heritage of Guangdong Province in 2022. It is also the only living heritage among various traditional Cantonese vat firing techniques.
The character "Loong" on the vat was inscribed by Bao Fangyi, a member of the China Calligraphers Association, director of the Guangdong Provincial Calligraphers Association and honorary chairman of the Qingyuan Calligraphers Association. The calligraphy was engraved on the vat precisely at the first Loong hour, day, month and year in 2024. The convergence of Longtang Town, the character "Loong", the Loong kiln and the “four Loong lucky hour”, resonates with the blessed tradition and culture of Qingyuan.
