Inspiring dream chasers gather for one-year countdown to China's 12th NGD and 9th NSOG

On December 7, the one-year countdown to China's 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) was marked with an exciting event organized by GDToday in Guangzhou. It was a celebration of resilience, determination, and the power of dreams.

For the first time, these prestigious Games will be co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, making it a truly special occasion as the three regions collaborate to promote inclusivity and sportsmanship.

The countdown event featured an inspiring lineup of guests, including Zhang Jiacheng, a one-armed basketball prodigy and the star of the movie Be Brave (《我就是风》), as well as Lin Ximei and Huang Wenjuan, Paralympic gold medalists who recently triumphed at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Zhang Jiacheng: A dream chaser on and off the court

Zhang Jiacheng's story captivated the audience. The movie Be Brave, appreciated by the audience at the event is, based on his real-life journey, highlighting his incredible resilience after losing his right arm in an accident at the age of five. Through sheer determination and love for basketball, he became a prodigy and a symbol of perseverance.

"Basketball brought me confidence, friends, and happiness. It's more than a sport to me—it's like a brother in my life. I can't live without it," Zhang shared during an interview. His message to athletes preparing for next year's Games was simple yet powerful: "Be bold and confident in doing what you want to do. Push your limits and achieve great results."

Paralympic champions reflect on their journey

Lin Ximei, who won gold in the boccia BC4 women's individual category in Paris, spoke about the transformative power of sports. "Sports made me more confident and stronger. I've learned to overcome adversity and shine in my own way, even with challenges," she said.

Lin expressed her excitement for the upcoming Games in her home region, aiming to stay calm and focused as she strives for another championship.

Huang Wenjuan, a Paralympic table tennis champion, highlighted the essence of the Paralympic spirit: "It's about breaking physical limits, challenging the impossible, and moving towards your goals."
