As a major exporter of agricultural produce, Guangdong exported 130.91 billion RMB of agricultural products in 2023, with a year-on-year increase of 13.3%, accounting for 18.8% of the total exports of national agricultural products.
The data was released by the Guangdong Sub-administration of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China at a press conference held on January 16 in Guangzhou.
According to the data, the export of aquatic products increased significantly last year. A total of 2.935 million tons of meat, aquatic products, fruits, and vegetables were exported in 2023, including 31,000 tons of prawns, representing a 71.1% increase.
2023 also witnessed a significant growth in the export of specialty fruits. The province exported 26,000 tons of Cantonese fruits such as lychee, longan, and pineapple, which was a 46.7% increase compared with the previous year. It is worth noting that lychee cans and three other fruit products were exported for the first time.
In addition, the export of prepared dishes has shown positive results. Boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili, along with five other prepared aquatic dishes, entered the markets of the UK, the Republic of Korea, and New Zealand for the first time. Furthermore, frozen poultry meat was exported to ASEAN and African countries for the first time.
