On July 3, the 2026 New Materials Special Competition of the China-Russia Industrial Innovation Competition opened in Maoming, Guangdong Province. The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, research institutes, universities, and enterprises. It featured a launch ceremony, expert think tank appointments, industrial seminars, and technology roadshows to deepen China-Russia cooperation in new materials science and technology.

An expert think tank was also formed at the event. Participants discussed industrial opportunities during China's 15th Five-Year Plan period, analyzed the two countries' complementary industrial strengths, and explored pathways for cross-border joint technological research and commercialization of innovation outcomes. Building on more than 70 years of industrial cooperation with the former Soviet Union, Maoming has developed mature green petrochemical and titanium-zirconium new materials clusters, supported by strong geographic advantages.
Using the competition as a platform, Maoming aims to build a regular exchange mechanism for China-Russia sci-tech innovation cooperation, attract projects and talent, strengthen industrial development, create a hub for translating bilateral innovation outcomes, and support the high-quality upgrading of local industries.
