After years of low-altitude flights over Shenzhen, aerial photographer Yomi has consistently sought to capture one particular kind of moment—the interplay between people and the city.
Through his lens, Shenzhen's skyscrapers often share the frame with pedestrians, dancers and working people. In his view, when skyscrapers and human figures coexist in one shot, they create a wonderful sense of tension.
"I believe Shenzhen's one-of-a-kind urban texture lies in the seamless interweaving of urban architecture and mountain-and-sea natural landscapes," Yomi remarks. Compared with other cities, Shenzhen, viewed from above, presents bustling urban clusters on one side and mountains and the sea on the other. "This is what makes aerial photography of Shenzhen so instantly recognizable."
He skillfully uses orbiting drone shots to pull distant skyscrapers close to human figures. He also loves low-angle upward camera movements, making buildings appear to "grow" from the bottom of the frame for engaging interactive visuals.
Yomi has now officially become an IP Guangdong creator. He will keep using his lens to document the city he lives in and the people he walks alongside. He makes a habit of writing a note in every footage folder: "Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen." This is not only his personal aspiration, but also his most heartfelt wish for the people and the city, both captured in his frame.
