On December 22, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway was put into operation, while the Shantou South-Shantou section commenced operations, reducing the travel time from Guangzhou to Guangdong's eastern and westernmost cities to within 2 hours.

Unbalanced regional development has long been a key challenge for Guangdong's economy. Now, as high-speed railways cut through the towering mountains connecting Eastern and Western Guangdong, a crisscross network of railway lines has emerged as an accelerator for the province’s high-quality development.

Spanning mountains and seas, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway links cities including Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming, and Zhanjiang, redefining the 401-kilometer journey.
