What appeals to me most about urban aerial photography is that it frees us from our ordinary eye-level perspective, revealing the full texture of a city. From high above, mountains, rivers, structures, road networks and parks stretch out in full view. Historic old quarters stand side by side with modern skyscraper clusters, and natural landscapes coexist with man-made urban spaces. This grand visual impact can hardly be achieved through ground-level shooting.
Every city has its own light and shadow. The same city can take on entirely different temperaments under different weather conditions. Through my lens, I hope, on the one hand, to document the trajectory of urban development and capture the marks left by the construction of our times; on the other hand, to convey the warmth of the city. Behind the bustling high-rises lie the fruits of countless people's hard-won endeavors.
I hope viewers will do more than simply marvel at the beauty of the visuals. I want them to understand a city's inclusiveness, vitality and everyday human spirit. They should witness the dynamic forward momentum of urban growth, while also perceiving the unique cultural character of this land.
Shenzhen is defined by its drive and sense of speed. The entire city has grown at a rapid pace. Mountains, seas and urban areas are interwoven, dotted with clusters of high-rise buildings, where coastal landscapes blend seamlessly with the metropolis. Its skyline delivers a powerful visual impact.
For Shenzhen, APEC 2026 serves as a showcase to the Asia-Pacific region and the wider world. As an aerial photographer who has long documented the city, I am filled with anticipation.
I hope that through this major event, the world will get to see a more well-rounded and complete picture of Shenzhen—not only a tech metropolis of rapid advancement, but also its ecological essence where mountains and seas converge, alongside its open and inclusive urban life.
