Weekly Highlights | Cloud Creatures: Rare Guests in the Skies of Guangdong

The skies of Guangdong are hosting a gathering of "magical creatures". This time, the photographers from IP Guangdong have not only captured breathtaking clouds, but have also "caught" a few rare guests hidden within them. These cloud creatures are not only nationally protected species, but their fate is closely tied to the landscapes of Lingnan and the people who live here.

#Oriental stork

The shape of this cloud resembles an oriental stork gracefully unfolding its snow-white wings and exuding elegance. Photographer @Diao Chao captured this unique moment of the cloud. Every year, from autumn to spring, oriental storks unfailingly migrate to Guangdong for the winter, and their tranquil presence in the wetlands and tidal flats creates a poetic vision of people and birds living in harmony.

#Leatherback sea turtle

This fluffy cloud resembles a leatherback sea turtle leisurely strolling along the shore. Photographer @Li Minglang captured this charming moment. Leatherback sea turtles, along with other sea turtle species, can often be spotted in certain coastal waters off Guangdong.

#Chinese white dolphin

This cloud, soft and pristine, looks like an "ocean fairy" leaping into the air. Photographer @H.W Beanmaijie captured it against the blue sky. Guangdong is home to six Chinese white dolphin nature reserves, making this dolphin a true "ocean fairy" living right by our side.

#Whale shark

The grand scale of this cloud seems as if only an "ocean giant" like the whale shark could command it. Photographer @SIMO chanced upon this cloud and captured the fleeting sight. Despite their massive size, whale sharks are gentle creatures, and encountering one in Guangdong, just like stumbling upon this cloud, is a rare and extraordinary experience.

#Golden kaiserihind‌

These two clouds look as if they were delicately sketched into the shape of butterfly wings. Photographer @Liu Jielin chanced upon this "cloud butterfly fairy", which recalls the golden kaiserihind‌, a species that favors the forests in Guangdong. It is truly a "queen of butterflies" living right beside us.
