Basketball is about to take over Guangdong! This economic powerhouse is launching a provincial city league to show off its sports culture — and the first game tips off tonight (March 21) with Guangzhou taking on Zhongshan.
Known for its sports achievements and strong hoops tradition, Guangdong continues to shine — just last year, it clinched the national championship at China's 15th National Games. Its booming manufacturing scene also fuels a vibrant sports industry.
At a previous press conference, the tournament will run through August, bringing together 21 city teams. The goal? To create a new flagship event for grassroots sports in the province.
Tonight, Guangzhou — the capital city and home to the iconic Canton Tower — faces Zhongshan, a city named after Sun Yat-sen and famous for the historic Fufengwen Pagoda. It's more than a game; it's a clash of city pride.
