China's Guangdong province will showcase its ecological gem, Jiangmen's 'Birds' Paradise' wetland park, at the 2025 Osaka World Expo later this week. The installation is part of the Guangdong Activity Week (June 27–29) in the China Pavilion.
The exhibition will feature an interactive zone inspired by the wetland. Visitors can experience simulated bird calls, virtual forest ecosystems, and digital interactions with Guangdong's environmental mascots.
Located in Jiangmen's Xinhui District, 'Birds' Paradise' gained fame after writer Ba Jin's 1933 essay "Birds' Paradise," which described its "water networks, single-tree forests, and thousands of birds taking flight." The park is now a national wetland reserve and the only site in China where a single banyan tree has developed into an entire forest ecosystem.
Over the past decade, conservation efforts have restored 270,000 square meters of bird habitats and increased green spaces by 74,000 square meters. Water quality now meets national Class III–IV standards. The wetland hosts 105 bird species and over 350 vascular plant species, serving as a key breeding ground for egrets, with more than 30,000 fledglings hatching annually.
More Guangdong Elements at the Expo
The activity week will also spotlight Guangzhou's smart metro systems, humanoid robots, and traditional performances like Yingge dance and Cantonese opera.
The expo runs until October 13 in Osaka, Japan.
