On the afternoon of March 10, the 2025 Guangzhou Red Culture Inheritance and Promotion Series Event, themed "Heroic Flowers Bloom in the Heroic City," was held at Shimen National Forest Park in Conghua District in Guangzhou.
Inside the Three Heroes Memorial Park at Shimen National Forest Park, a solemn ceremony of tomb sweeping and flower offering for the three heroes was conducted. The garden features a sculpture titled "The Flame of Youth", created by Huang Benkai from the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy, commemorating the three martyrs—Liu Guidong, Mei Jinkang, and Yan Qunying—who heroically sacrificed their lives while fighting a forest fire in Daling Mountain Forest Farm in Conghua in 1966. Three kapok trees planted beside the sculpture symbolize the eternal inheritance of the heroes' spirit, with their scarlet blossoms echoing the heroes' undying legacy.
The event included a cultural performance divided into two parts: "Heroic Monuments and Everlasting Spirit" and "Red Kapok Blossoms and Green Beauty Together." Over 300 representatives participated. A poem titled "The Flame of Red Kapok, Heroes Live On," written by Yang Ke, President of the Poetry Institute of China, was recited on-site, inspiring future generations to carry forward the heroes' spirit.
Additionally, a flag-granting ceremony for the Red Kapok Volunteer Service Team was held, calling on more people to engage in volunteer services and build a greener and more beautiful homeland together.
Shimen National Forest Park, as one of the core venues for this series of activities, will integrate red culture with ecological construction in March, launching a range of red culture promotional activities, including the Red Kapok Stage, Red Kapok Volunteer Services, and Red Kapok Study Sessions.
Shimen National Forest Park is a national 4A-level scenic area with a forest coverage rate of over 96%. In recent years, the park has optimized forest quality and explored red culture, deeply integrating ecological protection with cultural inheritance.
