Three popular countertenors to enchant Flower City with their melodies

On June 3, 2025, the orchestra of the Royal Opera of the Château de Versailles will return to the stage of the Guangzhou Opera House to hold a key exchange concert for the 19th "Festival Croisements."

In 2024, the orchestra was invited to perform at the opening of the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic ties and the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. This year, this world-class early music ensemble will collaborate with three of Europe's most sought-after countertenors—Samuel Marino, Filippo Mineccia, and Meili Li—to interpret classic opera excerpts from the Baroque period.

In addition, Guangzhou Opera House and Guangzhou Library have jointly curated a Baroque-themed book exhibition and a public lecture titled "Essence of Baroque Music and Art," aimed at popularizing artistic knowledge among citizens.

The concert will open with "Marche pour la Ceremonie des Turcs" by Jean-Baptiste Lully, Louis XIV's court composer. These three countertenors will present solo, duet, and trio performances, joining the orchestra to showcase masterpieces by Baroque composers such as Georg Friedrich Handel, Carl Heinrich Graun, and Nicola Antonio Porpora.

Last year, the orchestra's tour across multiple Chinese cities received widespread acclaim, with several concerts selling out and additional seats being added.
