On the opening day, the institute launched two R&D platforms — the Biomedicine and Biomaterials Innovation Center and the Nonlinear Power Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Center. These centers are dedicated to the commercialization and advancement of state-of-the-art technologies in life sciences and AI meteorological forecasting, respectively.
He Xin, the institute's executive dean, hopes that LZU's academic strength will lead to significant scientific and technological achievements in Shenzhen.
Located in Lanzhou, the capital of Northwest China's Gansu Province, LZU is the region's leading university and ranks in the top 30 among over 1,500 universities nationwide, according to its official website.
Earlier this month, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) opened bidding for the construction of its Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Studies.
The institute, to be located in Longhua District, is expected to accommodate 3,000 students upon completion and will only admit master's and doctoral students. The school will mainly focus on electronic information, integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, network communication, and quantum communication.
Based in Chengdu, the capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, the UESTC is a national key multidisciplinary university that specializes in electronic engineering, information science, and technology.
