On June 30, 2024, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link officially opened to traffic. As of June 30, 2025, it has handled more than 31.5 million vehicle trips in its first year of operation, averaging 86,000 vehicles per day.
The peak traffic volume occurred on the first day of the 2025 May Day holiday, reaching 181,600 vehicles in a single day.
As the world's first cross-sea cluster project that includes a bridge, island, tunnel, and underwater interchange, the 24-kilometer-long link connects Shenzhen, Zhongshan, and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province. It enhances the integration of the one-hour traffic circle of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
In the past year, 120,000 intercity bus trips between Zhongshan and Shenzhen served 3 million passengers, while 940,000 travelers from the west bank of the Pearl River used the link to access Shenzhen Airport, with passenger flow up 160% compared to before the link opened.
The link has also boosted regional integration and economic cooperation. In 2024, tech transactions between Shenzhen and Zhongshan reached nearly 100 million yuan, representing an 80% year-over-year increase.
Over 20 projects with a total investment exceeding 5 billion yuan have been launched in Zhongshan's Cuiheng District, a new core area on the west bank of the Pearl River directly connected to the link. From there, it takes just 30 minutes to reach Hengqin in Zhuhai, Qianhai in Shenzhen, and Nansha in Guangzhou.
The link has also significantly promoted the development of tourism. During the 2024 National Day holiday, Zhongshan welcomed 3.41 million tourists, up 102.36%, generating tourism revenue of 1.968 billion yuan.
A science education base on the western artificial island of the link, themed "Cross-Sea Transportation Engineering Technologies," will be built. Covering 2,200 square meters, the base is set to open by the end of the year by appointment.
