A parade of 15 classic cars from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao navigated Guangzhou's streets on June 11, generating excitement for the upcoming 15th National Games.
Displaying the National Games emblem, the vintage vehicles departed from Tianhe Sports Center at 9 a.m. on June 11. The procession traveled past significant cultural and sporting sites, including Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center, the European-style architecture of Shamian Island, Haizhu National Wetland Park (Haizhu Lake), and the Guangdong Olympic Sports Centre. Organizers created interactive spots along the route featuring pop-up quizzes about the Games and environmental themes, turning the tour into a cultural tourism experience.
The parade offered contrasting visuals at historical locations. Classic cars passed the blue-tiled facade of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, evoking the site's heritage. At Shamian Island, crowds gathered to photograph the vehicles weaving beneath ancient banyan trees. Visitors near Haizhu Lake answered ecology-related quiz questions, while at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Centre, the parade encouraged spectators to take photos against the backdrop of the modern stadium.
"It was exciting to see these classic cars at a Games venue," said Guangzhou resident Ms. Wang. "We're all looking forward to the opening ceremony on November 9," Yi Liming, Executive President of the Guangdong Automobile Culture Promotion Association, noted, "These vintage cars carry historical significance from industrial development while also acting as mobile communicators for the Games."
Preparations for the November 9-21 Games continue, and the vintage car rally provided a nostalgic prelude to this collaborative sporting event.
