On February 18, the second solar term of the lunar year—Rain Water falls. The Rain Water period signifies the gradual increase of rainfall, and the sprouting of plants.
However, 'Rain Water' does not necessarily mean that it will rain on this particular day. Instead, it represents the beginning of rainfall and an increase in precipitation, signifying that a warm and gentle spring is quietly approaching. After the Rain Water, plants push out tender sprouts, and flowers such as rapeseed, apricot, and plum bloom in succession.
As the saying goes, "Spring rain is as precious as oil." Adequate rainfall is crucial for the growth of crops. Rain Water marks a critical period for the management of early spring crops and preparations for late spring planting. At this time, farmers across the country seize the opportunity to engage in agricultural activities in the fields.
Moreover, as the weather warms up and the wind becomes drier, it is advisable to consume more fresh vegetables and fruits to replenish the body's moisture, reduce the intake of greasy and cold foods, and exercise regularly to improve resistance.
Poem about the Rain Water
Happy Rain on a Spring Night
Du Fu (Tang Dynasty)
Good rain knows its time right;
It will fall when comes spring.
With wind it steals in night;
Mute, it moistens each thing.
O'er wild lanes dark cloud spreads;
In boat a lantern looms.
Dawn sees saturated reds;
The town's heavy with blooms.
