With less than 20 days until the Spring Festival, the festive atmosphere is growing stronger in Guangdong. The province warmly welcomes domestic and international visitors to celebrate the Chinese New Year in its vibrant cities.
Foshan: A carnival of arts and culinary delights
This Spring Festival, Foshan will host over 700 events under its "Fu Xi" (“福喜”) cultural brand, highlighting Lingnan traditions and vibrant local life. "Fu Xi", meaning good fortune and joy, embodies the essence of the Spring Festival—a time for family reunions, happiness, and wishing for good fortune in the year ahead. Top attractions include blooming flower displays at various parks, as well as the Art Field Nanhai Guangdong, an art festival featuring 95 art projects across four routes.
Food enthusiasts can indulge in Cantonese cuisine at events such as the Lingnan Food Festival. From Buddha Jumps Over the Wall (a pot of nutritious delicacies like abalone, dried scallops, chicken, etc.) to Shunde steamed pork, Foshan promises a feast for the senses. Additionally, shopping vouchers, travel subsidies, and creative food competitions are set to attract visitors from far and wide.
Zhongshan: First Chinese New Year after Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link's opening
Zhongshan is celebrating its first Spring Festival after the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link opened, bringing a surge in visitors. The city will organize around 800 events, including cultural heritage parades, live music, and lantern festivals at Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street. Zhongshan Studio City will add excitement with lion dances, Tang Dynasty-themed events, and craft displays. Tourists can also explore Zhongshan through curated travel routes featuring hot springs, heritage sites like Sun Yat-sen's legacy trail, and family-friendly outdoor adventures.
Zhanjiang: "Three Freshness and Three Beauties" experience
Zhanjiang's celebrations embrace its unique "Three Freshness" (air, water, and produce) and "Three Beauties" (rural charm, natural wonders, and cultural richness). Over 1,000 events will showcase local traditions, such as the God of Wealth Cultural Festival with parades and lion dances.
From New Year's Day to the Lantern Festival, Dinlong Bay International Ocean Resort will feature cultural showcases, including non-tangible heritage performances and food fairs. The city's "Village New Year Gala" will spotlight rural festivals with elements like floral parades and food exhibitions, offering visitors a deep dive into Zhanjiang's rich heritage.
These three cities present a captivating mix of culture, art, and local flavour, making Guangdong a perfect destination for celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year.
