Hengqin Nature Week kicks off with over 60 activities

On March 12, the third Hengqin Nature Week kicked off. Seven themes highlight green initiatives

The opening ceremony marked the beginning of a series of eco-friendly activities. Attended by officials from both Guangdong and Macao, as well as representatives from various institutions and local residents, the event symbolized a united effort in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.

During the opening ceremony, guests participated in a symbolic tree-planting ritual, watering saplings that represented hope and environmental commitment.

This act set the tone for Nature Week, which aims to showcase Hengqin's natural beauty and biodiversity conservation efforts while fostering ecological exchanges between Guangdong and Macao.

Tree planting for a greener future

Coinciding with the 47th China Arbor Day, the first voluntary tree-planting activity of Nature Week took place immediately after the opening ceremony. Participants from both regions, including government departments, schools, and families, joined forces to plant over 60 saplings, adding a touch of green to Hengqin's landscape.

This tree-planting initiative is part of the ongoing "Ten Thousand Trees Plan". Throughout March, over 40 tree-planting events will be held, with a goal of planting 10,000 saplings. By the end of the year, more than 100 tree-planting activities will take place, with an estimated 100,000 trees planted, underscoring the region's dedication to environmental protection.

Building an ecological community across borders

Nature Week also features interactive booths and displays that educate the public on environmental topics such as waste sorting, bird protection, and ancient tree conservation. These booths have attracted many residents and visitors, particularly students, who engage in learning about nature through games and hands-on activities.

Nature Week serves as a platform to explore new paths for cross-border ecological cooperation, strengthen the bond between the two regions, and jointly create a livable environment, contributing to the green development of the Greater Bay Area.

Since its inception in 2023, Hengqin Nature Week has gained significant attention and participation from residents of both regions. It reflects the shared commitment to environmental sustainability and cross-border collaboration in the pursuit of a greener future.
