More than 100 journalists from around the world have been touring Guangdong since September 3, ahead of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen this November. One of their stops is an unexpected side of China's tech hub—its mangroves.
More than 30 years ago, Shenzhen moved a major road over 200 meters north, spending an extra 100 million yuan, to protect its mangroves.
Today, tens of thousands of migratory birds stop around Shenzhen Bay, while conservationists are even using AI to help protect them.
As mangroves continue to disappear around the world, can a megacity keep growing without pushing nature out?
