China Xplained | What is the secret behind the history-making ZXMOTO?

A Chinese motorcycle brand is making waves on the global stage. ZXMOTO, founded by Zhang Xue, has secured a historic victory in the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK), marking the first win for a Chinese manufacturer in the sport.

Zhang's journey spans over two decades—from working in a small repair shop to building high-performance motorcycles capable of competing with industry giants. His persistence paid off as ZXMOTO defeated established brands such as Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha.

What sets ZXMOTO apart is not just performance, but cost. With a price tag of just over $6,000, its bikes are significantly more affordable than competitors, yet deliver world-class capabilities, including acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in under two seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h.

Behind this breakthrough lies China's robust manufacturing ecosystem. Cities like Chongqing and Jiangmen host thousands of specialized suppliers, enabling rapid prototyping and production at scale.

The market response has been swift. Within days of opening pre-orders, ZXMOTO recorded over 10,000 orders, totaling more than 370 million yuan.

With ambitions now set on MotoGP, ZXMOTO's rise signals a broader shift: China is accelerating into the top tier of global motorsports.
