Have you ever wondered where many of the smart devices and daily-use products featured in viral short videos actually come from? From kitchen appliances to pet tech, a surprising number of them trace their origins back to Guangdong, China's manufacturing powerhouse.
During the fifth session of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, held in Guangzhou, deputies from cutting-edge manufacturing sectors offered a closer look at how "Made in Guangdong" products are shaping smarter, easier lifestyles around the world.
Smart appliances for daily life
Shu Li, a deputy to the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress and General Manager Assistant of Guangdong Welly Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd., introduced a range of household products that are already popular overseas.
"These include microwave ovens, washing machines, and smart small appliances such as ice makers, ice cream machines, and smoothie makers," Shu said. One of the smoothie makers previously became a bestseller on Amazon and even sold out during peak demand.
According to Shu, intelligence in home appliances today is no longer just about hardware. "Our microwave ovens use cloud-based smart recipe controls that can be continuously updated," she explained. "This helps solve a common problem for many consumers, especially those who don't know how to cook properly with a microwave."
Shu also highlighted how their microwaves are adapted to different international markets. Consumers in the United States tend to prefer touch controls and large, minimalist designs, while European customers often favor retro styles or mechanical operation. In parts of the Middle East and Africa, steaming functions are emphasized.
To support overseas users, Welly operates a 24-hour customer service team and maintains real-time communication with buyers through major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.
Pet devices help reduce daily chores
Another deputy, Yu Bingyan, Chairman of Guangdong Boyu Group Co., Ltd., focused on intelligent pet products designed to reduce daily tasks for owners.
Yu introduced smart aquariums, self-cleaning litter boxes, and automatic feeders. "Through a mobile app, users can remotely control aquarium temperature and feeding schedules," he said.
The smart litter box, Yu noted, is fully modular and capable of cleaning itself. It can also monitor a cat's activity patterns and track weight, helping owners better understand their pets' health.
Product design is also tailored to regional preferences. Smaller aquariums are more common in Europe and the United States, while Southeast Asian markets, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, tend to favor larger tanks, particularly for species such as arowana fish.
"We customize products based on the needs of buyers in different countries," Yu said, emphasizing flexibility as a key advantage of Guangdong manufacturing.
