Celebrate CNY in museums with diverse Chinese art exhibitions

Around the Spring Festival, in addition to the New Year activities, major art galleries and museums in Guangzhou have successively launched art exhibitions that encapsulate the unique characteristics of Chinese culture, with some exhibitions lasting for several months.

The largest-scale exhibition on Guangzhou Clocks, "Timeless Masterpieces: the Exquisite Guangzhou Clock of the Qing Dynasty," is currently on display at the Guangdong Museum, focusing on Qing Dynasty Guangzhou clocks and featuring over 110 exquisite pieces and related cultural relics.

The exhibition is divided into "The Scale of Time," "The Art of Time," and "The Warmth of Time," showcasing the diverse aspects and contemporary value of Qing Dynasty Guangzhou clocks.

The exhibition "A Year with Blessing: Exhibition of Auspicious Artifacts" will kick off at the Guangzhou Museum on January 27. The exhibition centers around the four major themes of "Blessing, Prosperity, Longevity, and Happiness," with 133 carefully selected pieces/sets of cultural relics that have not been previously exhibited.

Focusing on the theme of "Inkstones," which embodies the essence of Chinese culture, the Southern Han Mausoleums Museum put on display 276 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, including inkstones and traditional Chinese writing materials from the museums of Guangdong and Tianjin.

These exhibits vividly tell the story of the inkstone culture in the Guangdong region. In ancient China, inkstones, along with ink, paper, and brushes, were collectively known as the Four Treasures of the Study.

Guangdong woodcut art is an important part of Chinese printmaking. To commemorate the 110th anniversary of the birth of Liu Xian, a renowned Chinese woodcut artist, the Guangzhou Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition "An Engraver with Great Deliberation: A Donation Exhibition of Works by Liu Xian."

The entire exhibition will feature Liu Xian's woodcut artworks, as well as various woodcut tools and techniques.

Flowers have always been an important subject in traditional Chinese painting. The Guangzhou Museum of Art is hosting a flower-themed art exhibition titled "Beautiful Flowers Bloom as Spring Arrives."

This exhibition features 19 exquisite works of art with floral themes (including 17 scroll pieces), presenting a vibrant natural scene of renewal and prosperity to the audience and adding vitality to the Flower City.

As archaeological work progresses, the mysterious veil of Liu He, the ninth emperor of the Han Dynasty who lived two thousand years ago, has been lifted. The exhibition "He·Year: The Life of Liu He, the Marquis of Haihun" is divided into four parts: "Youthful Journey," "Ephemeral Dream," "Carefree Intoxication," and "Public Discourse". It reinterprets the life of Liu He, a life interwoven with glory and tragedy, through 210 artifacts in 127 sets.
