As of August 21, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway has handled a total of 20.088 million passenger trips in 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 16.2%. During the summer travel season (July 1–August 21), passenger volume reached 5.039 million, up 15.9% year-on-year, with an average of nearly 100,000 passengers per day.
From January 1 to August 21, the railway recorded 20.088 million passenger trips, with 59 peak days exceeding 100,000 passengers in a single day. Data show that these peaks were concentrated on weekends and public holidays. Leisure activities, family visits, and short-distance travel have become the main drivers of passenger growth.
By direction, 9.761 million passengers traveled from Hong Kong SAR to the Mainland, up 15% year-on-year, while 10.327 million passengers traveled to Hong Kong, up 17.3%.
Notably, the dual-city lifestyle has become a daily choice for residents of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Passengers traveling from Hong Kong to Shenzhen accounted for 38.4% of all Hong Kong-to-Mainland traffic, while travelers from Shenzhen to Hong Kong accounted for 38.8% of all Mainland-to-Hong Kong traffic.
On August 17, passenger numbers peaked at 134,000 in a single day. Coinciding concerts held in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen that day triggered a surge in cross-regional travel.
