"It is currently 8:00 a.m. on November 18, Equatorial Guinea time. I am in the outpatient pharmacy of our residence in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, organizing medicine boxes. Today, we are going to the China-Equatorial Guinea Friendly School in Equatorial Guinea to carry out a one-day free medical consultation. Since our medical team arrived in Africa to provide aid, it has been 148 days, " said Tan Shunmou, Leader of Chinese Medical Team Aiding Equatorial Guinea.
On June 24, 2025, the 34th Chinese Medical Team Aiding Equatorial Guinea officially set foot on this African land. This is a full-strength medical team dispatched by the Foshan Municipal Health Bureau, consisting of 25 members in total, including one full-time team leader, 19 medical staff members, three translators and two chefs. Among them, the 19 medical staff members are from 14 tertiary hospitals in Foshan.
The distance from Foshan, China to Equatorial Guinea is vast. A one-and-a-half-year deployment is not enough to bring earth-shaking changes to the local medical standards. But beautiful changes are taking place. Local doctors trained by the medical team have begun to handle complex cases independently.
Villagers who once only trusted witch doctors now take the initiative to seek medical treatment. In the future, this baton of life will be passed from their hands to the next. Once the seeds of hope are sown, they will possess the inherent power to break through the soil and grow.
