A group of children and their parents took part in a rice harvest event on Sunday at an agricultural base in Yuantan township of Qingyuan, Guangdong province.
The event was part of the charity programs instigated by Chimelong Group, one of China's leading safari and theme park operators, to highlight the importance of repurposing animal manure into organic fertilizer.

The rice field is based on a complete ecological cycle from animal waste to organic fertilizer. It recently turned into a base of golden rice ears as it entered the harvest season.
Chimelong has introduced technology for converting rare animal manure into organic fertilizer. Combined with experimental fields using mineral pure organic methods, the technology has effectively reduced the use of pesticides and improved rice quality.

Additionally, applications of smart agriculture technologies and facilities, such as drone seeding and intelligent management, have helped increase the early rice yield in Yuantan township by about 30 percent compared to individual farming practices.
Animal manure was collected and then subjected to fermentation treatment to eliminate harmful bacteria while retaining nutrients, according to Feng Keqing, a science educator at Chimelong.

"The treatment ultimately transforms animal manure into high-quality organic fertilizer that nourishes the soil and nourishes the golden rice grains," said Feng.
