Two new intercity railway lines in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area are scheduled to begin before the opening of the National Games, helping to form a better intercity transportation system, according to Guangzhou Metro Group.
One line will run 57.8 kilometers from Panyu to Baiyun Airport North, linking the south and north of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province. The other will stretch 18.2 km from Pazhou in Haizhu district to Lianhua Mountain in Nansha district.
Both routes will be integrated with existing lines, including the Guangzhou–Huizhou, Guangzhou–Zhaoqing and Guangzhou–Qingyuan intercity services, as well as the Baiyun Airport North–Huadu section of the Guangzhou East Ring Intercity Railway, to create a more efficient regional network.
With the addition of the two new lines, intercity railways operated by Guangzhou Metro Group will extend to 414.2 km. Travel times are expected to fall to about 30 minutes from Guangzhou to the central areas of Foshan and Dongguan, 60 minutes to Zhaoqing and Huizhou, and 90 minutes to Qingyuan.
