What should foreigners do if their passports have expired?

For the foreigner whose passport expires in China, They should immediately apply for a passport renewal at the local entry and exit management department at or above the county level of the place of stay with materials required. The exit and entry administration department will complete the approval and document making process within the prescribed time limit. Following that, the foreigner should proceed to their country's embassy or consulate in China to obtain a new passport. Please note that an appointment is required for this service, and passport services are not available on weekends or holidays. After obtaining the new passport, the foreigner needs to apply for a visa extension at the local entry and exit management department. During the application process, the foreigner is required to abide by Chinese laws and regulations and follow the prescribed procedures and requirements. If their application is approved, they will receive a new visa or passport and can continue to stay in China.
