China's southern regions are expected to experience a new round of heavy rainfall from Tuesday to Thursday, the most intense so far this year, with widespread coverage and strong intensity. Daily precipitation may be significant, posing a high risk of weather-related disasters that require heightened vigilance, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Monday.
Since May, the southern regions have experienced frequent rainfall, with areas such as South China recently undergoing three consecutive rounds of significant precipitation. The rainfall in some regions is above the normal level for this time of the year, according to the NMC.
Meteorological experts warned that during this round of rainfall, certain meteorological stations in the northern parts of South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and northern parts of Guangdong Province may see daily precipitation approaching or surpassing historical May records. It is important to remain alert about the potential geological and secondary disasters caused by continuous rainfall, said the NMC.
Due to persistent rainfall, many areas in Southwest and South China are experiencing significantly lower temperatures than in the same period of previous years. In contrast, most northern regions are seeing a rise in temperatures, with some areas in Northeast China potentially reaching around 30 C, according to Weather China on Monday.
Over the next four days, the number of northern areas with maximum temperatures of 30 C and above will gradually increase, especially in the eastern part of North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to Northeast China, where the temperature rise is expected to be most pronounced. On Wednesday, Shenyang, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, is likely to experience its first 30 C day of the year, according to Weather China.
