China-U.S. law enforcement cooperation yields tangible results

China's Ministry of Public Security said that since the beginning of this year, law enforcement agencies of China and the United States have conducted practical cooperation in areas including counternarcotics, combating telecom and online fraud, and fugitive repatriation, achieving tangible results.

In counternarcotics efforts, China and the United States have jointly cracked cases involving drug smuggling and trafficking as well as the transnational trafficking of new psychoactive substances, cutting off smuggling routes between the two countries, the ministry said.

Police from China, the United States and the United Arab Emirates jointly cracked down on telecom and online fraud operations in Dubai, apprehending 276 suspects and disrupting the criminal networks behind such crimes.

China and the United States have also cooperated in fugitive repatriation. The U.S. side handed two suspects over to China, one wanted for alleged drug smuggling and trafficking and the other for allegedly kidnapping and murdering Chinese citizens overseas. Chinese police also apprehended a U.S. fugitive wanted for serious violent crimes and repatriated the individual to the United States.

The ministry said that Chinese police will deepen practical cooperation with law enforcement agencies in the United States and other countries, improve mechanisms for sharing leads and jointly investigating cases, and resolutely crack down on transnational crime in accordance with the law.
