On September 2, an Airbus A320 aircraft of China Southern Airlines landed smoothly at Shaoguan Danxia Airport, marking a complete success of its test flight. The airport plans to achieve navigation this year.

Shaoguan Danxia Airport is the ninth civil airport in Guangdong Province. Located in Guitou Town, Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, northwest of Shaoguan City, the airport is 30 kilometers away from Shaoguan downtown and covers an area of more than 3,300 acres. It is designed and built according to the goal of handling an annual passenger throughput of 1 million and cargo throughput of 4,000 tons.
This airport will fill the gap of civil airports in northern Guangdong. In recent years, Guangdong has focused on arranging the "5+4" key airport layout with the goal of building world-class airport agglomeration. Five major airports built in the Pearl River Delta region include: Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, Foshan New Airport, Zhuhai Jinwan Airport, Huizhou Pingtan Airport; and four key airports in eastern Guangdong, western Guangdong and northern Guangdong include: Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport, Zhanjiang Airport, Meizhou Meixian Airport and now, Shaoguan Danxia Airport.
Shaoguan Danxia Airport is planned to be positioned as a “branch line airport for tourist destination”. In the near future, it will focus on civil passenger and cargo transportation and will balance general aviation development as well, while it aims to become an important tourist destination branch line airport in South China and Guangdong Province in the long term.
