China's National Press and Publication Administration on Monday unveiled strict new measures aiming at curbing youth videogame addiction. The new regulation will ban minors, defined as those under 18 years of age, from playing online videogames entirely between Monday and Thursday. On the other three days of the week, and on public holidays, they will be only permitted to play between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The regulation, which will take effect on Wednesday, September 1, also requires all users to register using their real names and government-issued identification documents.
All these measures are intended to guide families, schools and other aspects of society to jointly manage and fulfill the duty of guardianship of minors, and create a good environment for the healthy growth of young people.
