According to Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, this year’s Typhoon No. 9 Lupit has formed on the South China Sea and is estimated to make a landfall on the boundary of Guangdong and Fujian on August 5, bringing downpours and gales to the province.
As of 3 p.m., Lupit is raging 275 km southwest to the Guangdong-Fujian boundary, moving north-eastward at 13km/h.

Guangdong has launched IV-level emergency response for the typhoon with 8 yellow alerts, 10 blue alerts, and 5 white alerts. The province is also organizing the return of fishing boats to safe harbour.
In the next few days, torrential rains and fierce wind are forecast to pound Guangdong. From August 4 to 6, heavy rains will fall in Meizhou, southern Pearl River Delta, and eastern and western Guangdong. Thundery showers will visit other cities in the province, along with 7 to 9-level wind blowing on the middle-eastern sea surface.

Residents are urged to ensure personal protection against the storm:
1. Seamen and ships should return to the harbour and close any tourist programs at sea with immediate effect.
2. Prevent disasters such as waterlogging, floods, debris flows, and landslides caused by heavy rain.
3. Prevent the collapse of sheds, billboards, and trees resulting from strong winds.
