Pleasantly warm days will be left in just a couple of days. A cold wave is expected to arrive in Guangdong on the afternoon of December 29th. Affected by this strong cold wave, 80 percent of cities in China will experience a sharp fall in temperature. The daily average temperature in Guangzhou will drop dramatically by 8 to 10 degrees. On the morning of New Year’s Day, the temperature in Guangzhou will drop to 4 ℃ and the cold weather will last throughout the New Year's Day holiday.

According to the historical data from Guangzhou Observatory, in the past 50 years, 2005 saw the coldest New Year's Day in the urban area of Guangzhou, with a lowest temperature of 2.1℃, and 2020/21 is likely to squeeze out 2014 and become the third coldest New Year's Day in the past 50 years.
