Citizens living in Tongdewai, Baiyun District of Guangzhou received a piece of good news yesterday. The northern extension of Metro Line 8 was formally operational from 2 p.m. yesterday (November 26th). From now on, the Line, which connects Liwan District, Yuexiu District and Baiyun District, will be bringing more convenience to the residents of Tongdewai.

Northern extension one-way duration: 28 mins

With a length of 16.1km, the northern extension of Metro Line 8 starts from Cultural Park Station and end in Jiaoxin Station. There are 12 stops on the route including 4 interchange stations which are Chen Clan Academy Station (transfer to Line 1), Caihongqiao Station(transfer to the future Line 11 and the second phase of Line 13), Xicun Station(transfer to Line 5) and Julong Station (transfer to the future Line 12).

However, the Xicun Station and Caihongqiao Station are not able to run now because of incomplete construction.

According to the test data, it only takes 28 minutes to run through the entire northern extension. And a one-way journey of Line 8 will take around 57 minutes.

Ticket price

The maximum fare for a one-way full-price ticket of Line 8 (Wanshengwei Station- Jiaoxin Station) is 7 yuan. While the maximum fare of the northern extension (Cultural Park - Jiaoxin) is 5 yuan.

Specially-commissioned tickets are put on sale

Guangzhou Metro also launched Specially-commissioned tickets for the opening of the northern extension of Metro Line 8, which is limited to 2000 sets. Each set contains 3 one-day Guangzhou Metro tickets. Commemorative tickets are designed around the number "8", which resembles a "gourd" symbolizing both wealth and happiness. Citizens can buy the tickets at 14 designated stations or purchase them through the mini program "Metro Optimal" (“地铁优选”).
