At 8:30 am, September 17th, the fourth, fifth and sixth carriages of a Hong Kong MTR train suddenly derailed just tens of meters before the Hung Hom station. As of 10:20 am today, eight passengers had been mildly injured as a result of the incident, the MTR Corporation said in a statement.
A total of five hundred passengers evacuated the train and walked along the tracks to Hung Hom station.
According to Frank Chan, the Secretary for Transport and Housing, the incident is being taken very seriously, and the government attaches great importance into the investigation as to the cause of the derailment.
Train services between two stations on the line were suspended due to the accident, said the MTR Corporation.
Earlier on March 18th, two metro trains on test run collided into each other at Central station. No passengers were on board at the time. The two trains were left in bad shape with windows smashed, seats uprooted and handrails bent.
The MTR said the collision happened while testing the new signaling system. Normal services resumed after two days.
