“The western world couldn't understand China in a proper way for many decades. Now that China is creating fantastic improvement in economy and technology, it’s important for the West to accept China’s philosophy,” said Boris Tadić, former president of the Republic of Serbia.
Boris Tadić shared his attitudes towards China's contribution to Belt and Road Initiative, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Taiwan issue in an interview at 2021 Imperial Spring International Forum on December 4.

“Some western media discredit China's investment in Serbia”
Serbia has been China's first Strategic Partner in the Central and Eastern Europe and also plays an important role in the Belt and Road Initiative. However, some western media discredit China's investment in Serbia. Boris responded to such voices, "In my term, our cooperation in infrastructure projects were very important for both countries. China helped us to build Zemun-Borca Bridge on the Danube, Europe's second longest river after the Volga. This bridge is really beautiful and helpful, not only for Serbian people, but also for international transportation. Nowadays, I'm expecting to build more highways and to cooperate on more infrastructure projects. And in Sweden, Chinese companies are owners of car production and they respect all rules perfectly. But rumors and misinformation that some Chinese companies don't respect rules and laws in Serbia after investing are afloat.”
Olympics should not be political tool
Being at the scene of the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Boris Tadić exclaimed, "It was one of the best opening ceremonies of Olympic Games. It was a really amazing festival of sports and friendship. I would like to see sports out of political conflict and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics not to be treated as a political tool in politicians' hands. Serbia is well-prepared for the coming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. We would like to see pure competition in this Olympics without interference from other fields.”
“I always respect the one-China principle”
Boris Tadić is also a strong advocate of the one-China principle and reasserted his standpoint in this interview, “I always respect the one-China principle. Unfortunately, some countries around the world don't respect international rules and laws regarding integrity and sovereignty of every single country. I'm not gonna change my approach in that respect because whoever is going to destroy and dismantle these kinds of rules and orders is creating a domino effect in the international arena. So, I support the one-China principle.”
Themed as Multilateralism 2.0: Global Cooperation in the Post-Pandemic Era, the 2021 Imperial Spring International Forum is in full swing from December 4 to December 6 in Conghua District, Guangzhou. This event is co-hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (ACFEA), the Australia China Friendship and Exchange Association (ACFEA), the People's Government of Guangdong Province and the World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid.
