As of midnight of April 14th, Guangdong had reported 2 more locally transmitted cases in Guangzhou, both of whom were detected through proactive screening conducted by medical institutions. No new imported cases were reported.
Moreover, Guangdong confirmed 18 more asymptomatic cases, with 15 in Guangzhou (all were locally transmitted cases), 2 in Foshan (all were locally transmitted cases), and 1 in Zhongshan (from Xiantao, Hubei province). They were all detected through proactive screening.
As of 24:00, April 14th, Guangdong had reported 1,566 cases in total, with 96 patients still in hospital (including 71 imported cases).
● Guangzhou
About the 15 asymptomatic cases
As of midnight of April 14th, Guangzhou had reported 15 asymptomatic cases (2 Chinese, 2 Russian, 1 Canadian and 10 African nationals), all of whom were close contacts of previous imported cases or expats in Guangzhou from countries severely affected by COVID-19.
Among the 15 cases, 1 had visited Firusz Bistro (绿松石小酒馆), 3 had been to Tongtong Trading City (通通商贸城), Guangda Trade City (广大商贸城), Co Co Food and other venues with a reported high risk areas for COVID-19. The other 11 cases had been in close contact with previous imported cases.
All these cases were discovered through investigation. 31 close contacts have been quarantined for medical observation at designated venues.
About the two locally transmitted cases
Case 1: 54 years old male, from Hunan province
Case 2: 53 years old female, from Hunan province
The two cases are a couple, residing in Xiangyang Street, Yaotai Community, Yuexiu District, and had recently been working part-time at the Tongtong Trading City at Guangzhou Xi Road. They had carried goods on behalf of a confirmed case of foreign nationality and subsequently had had close contact a couple times.
Between March 27th and April 5th, the two patients packed and carried garments five hours per day for African merchants in the basement of the trading city. They took off their masks only to eat and drink.
On April 6th -12th, they went to Yaotai Market to buy groceries from time to time and rested at home most of the time.
On April 13th, the two patients were put under medical observation as close contacts of the confirmed case and tested positive for COVID-19 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. They were re-tested positive by CDC, and then transferred to the Guangzhou 8th People’s Hospital to receive treatment in isolation.
On April 14th, they were confirmed as COVID-19 cases.
These two cases were detected, and 7 close contacts have been quarantined for medical observation. The related venues including their residence and workplace were subsequently disinfected.
